Our Craft Group was first established when Torfaen u3a was formed in 2009. Over the years, we have made many different items using a variety of techniques and mediums. We are a friendly, lively group, always happy to welcome new members and new ideas.
We do individual projects using embroidery, crochet, knitting, quilting, patchwork and sewing, producing toys, hats, scarves, quilts, blankets and pictures, learning new techniques from each other as we have no designated teacher.
The group also supports appeals for help from a variety of sources, mainly using our knitting skills. These have included Trauma Teddies for children going through difficult times, hats for seafarers, Teddies for Help the Heroes, Easter Rabbits and chicks, and various items for our local hospital.
We have been fortunate to have a number of visiting speakers who have introduced us to, and inviting us to assist in their own projects. An example of these is our ongoing collaboration with an Art Textile project with an ecological message. This has involved decorating pieces of denim with embroidery or applique which will be sewn together and displayed as a large artwork.

Our 2024 Christmas Project was Wreathmaking.
